A really great worldbuilding game! I tried this solo, too, which works just fine. I decided to take a few more paints in my palette and some additional touchstones to hopefully get a greater range of inspiration despite the lack of conversation. I got a very neat world, perfect for the solo game I had planned to play afterwards. Without the input of other players, the world will not feel quite the same as worlds created with others, though, so that is something to keep in mind. But both solo or coop, this game is really well designed, has a great layout that makes working with it very easy and intuitive, and is just a lot of fun.
I played this after the christmas dinner whit a couple of friends that are not familiar whit TTRPG and they absolutely loved the game and the world we have just created (a post industrialized society that takes electricity from the dreamlands) and now they are super hyped and invested on playing TTRPG
got this on the schedule as soon as it crossed my feed; we just played it tonight and had a great time! thank you for making it. do you have any guidance for running virtually? we sort of kludged something together with an online whiteboard + playingcards.io, but if there's a more elegant solution for future reference i'd love to hear it
This is wonderful. I heard the game played on Party of One a couple of years back and always meant to check it out properly. I just purchased a copy and read through much of it in a sitting. What a wonderful book! Thank you for creating it. 🔮
This game is so good at getting my group's creative juices flowing, and it's got great light-touch mechanics that can meet the players at whatever level of engagement that they want to play at. Cannot recommend this game enough, and the artwork in this new edition is GORGEOUS. Stellar work on the art and the game.
Do you have any best practices for playing this solo? Maybe just choosing at least 3 paints and at least 3 touchstones before just running through the rest of the prompts/draws on my own?
Seems like a great bit of inspiration, especially with friends but solo too!
I've never run it solo! The conversation of it all is so important to me, BUT I think... 3 paints 3 touchstones feels good. I'd maybe do:
the Paints as write 4-6 and randomly grab 3-4 of them, to simulate a little "out-of-your-hands" inspiration. OR write 2-3 Paints and close your eyes and randomly point to a word in the suggested Paints once or twice lol
And with Touchstones, I like to have a Touchstone for each that adds a: Thematic Element, Aesthetic Element, Sensory Element, and/or Tangible Element (you can see this in the example Touchstones in the book!)
Then after that, yeah if you're comfortable with answering prompts and riffing off yourself, then you can absolutely play solo!
Thanks! I think that's great advice based on my first read. Thankfully, I decided to give it a go as a play-by-post on my personal Discord so I could still have that conversation with folks and it seems to work well (so far) for more asynchronous play that way. I'll report back when we're done!

Big congrats for the release, Viditya and team.
The book looks amazing!
I am very glad to have a copy of this little book. It is a wonderful thing to own!
